Bling It On: Project Accessory Series Premiere

Fans of Lifetime's design competition "Project Runway" are in for a treat: the network has premiered a spin-off that focuses on accessories - Project Accessory.
12 accessory designers compete for a chance to win a $100,000 dollar prize from eBay fashion, along with a feature spread in InStyle and a year of professional runway hair styling. The host of Project Accessory is none other than actress and model Molly Sims, who will judge the designers along with designer Kenneth Cole and InStyle Editor Ariel Foxman. Also, mentoring the designers is lifestyle expert Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti.

The series stays true to the Project Runway format by challenging the designers to be innovative and bring their own design aesthetic to the mix. In the series premiere, the 12 contestants have to accessorize a classic t-shirt and jeans outfit by working only with unconventional materials that they gather from a storage unit. The goal is to create 3 different accessories - that must include a belt, a necklace and an accessory of their choice - in just one day. Insane!
The unconventional challenge is definitely a favorite of mine on Project Runway, and this spin-off doesn't fall short: suitcases, chandeliers, teddy-bears and springs are chosen as the primary materials by the designers. While the time constraints really seem to bring out the best in some designers, which test their limits and create unique pieces, others crumble under the pressure.
For me, what this challenge should be all about is succeeding in transforming the materials into something completely different, and creating a beautiful design. Here are some of my favorite designs:

Adrian Dana

Christina Caruso

Diego Rocha
But while some shined, others did not: the bottom two designers were Cotrice - who had a very hard time editing - and Nicolina Royale - who just couldn't transform the materials. In case you haven't seen the episode I won't spoil it by saying who won and who was sent home, but I will say I don't share the judges opinion on who was eliminated.
Will you watch Project Accessory's first season? I know I will. Also, I've been thinking of maybe doing weekly reviews, what do you think?

  7. You made me go loo for this show, I think its a good show but its kinda of lame. But I will watch. I think the prizes needs to be better and the finally challenge should be them at market trying to sell a collection to vendors.
